The Start of an Awesome Journey

Hello, and welcome to the hidden location of wmdcomedy.

I (Tom), wanted to start with something of an apology and an explanation. During the course of writing this blog, performing our show, and just generally communicating with everyone; we're all three of us, very likely to greatly overuse and undervalue the word 'awesome'. We'll tweet about an awesome sandwich, we'll get on an awesome train to get to Edinburgh, and we'll have an awesome fight about which pork pies are better value in an awesome Scottish branch of Lidl. But, I wanted to start the blog, with what I feel is an appropriate use of the word awesome. Awesome journey. Because that accurately describes my excitement and anticipation for the project/adventure.

'Now hold on', I imagine somebody might say if they stumble across this blog. 'Awesome, Edinburgh, pork pies? Just what on earth is this all about?' Well, there's a convenient about us page, where you can find all of the information you'll need about who we are and what we're up to, but seeing as this is the first post, I feel like I should at least outline the basic premise of our project, and introduce us all.

My name is Tom Dransfield, myself and two of my friends and fellow comedians, Ben Winterton and Ryan McCann are working together to put on a 3 act stand up show at the Edinburgh Free Fringe, ambitiously entitled 'how to be awesome at everything'. We met, and largely started performing stand up at Lancaster University, and this year is the very first year that any of us have made plans to go to perform at the fringe.

As a result, we're all incredibly excited. We've started this blog as a way to catalogue and archive that excitement, not just so that people may read it and hear about how the whole show is  progressing, but also as a tool for ourselves to record all of the preparations we go through in the running months, as well as our experience whilst we're up there. There's a chance this blog, could even be used to help other first timers in following years as they avoid some of the inevitable mistakes we're sure to make along the way. Or, it could very possibly exist as part of a time capsule for future generations to discover what it was like to be an establishing comedian in the 21st century; provided someone prints it out and buries it of course.

That effectively brings us up to speed. Watch this space for plenty of updates as well as a place for speculations, tastes and opinions on the topic of comedy from all three of us. Thanks for reading
